Day

1

Arrival in Moshi

Evening: Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Meet your guide for a briefing on your upcoming trek and an equipment check to ensure you have all necessary mountain gear. Any missing gear can be rented on this day. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel in Moshi.

Beginning the Rongai Route

Morning: Travel to the village of Nale Moru, the starting point of the Rongai route. The first stage of the trek will take you through farmland and pine forests. 


Afternoon: Enjoy the opportunity to spot Colobus monkeys, and perhaps even elephants or buffalo along the way. Reach Simba Camp, located at the edge of the moorland zone at 2625m.

Ascending to Second Cave Camp

Morning: Embark on a steady ascent to Second Cave Camp, located in the moorland zone. Enjoy superb views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim.

A Trek Through Moorland

Morning: Leaving the pine forest behind, embark on a steady ascent through moorland. Enjoy superb views of the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim of Kibo, the highest of Kilimanjaro's three volcanoes. 


Afternoon: Depart the main trail and traverse the moorland on a smaller path towards the jagged peaks of Mawenzi, the second of Kilimanjaro's volcanoes. Set up camp in the sheltered valley near Kikelewa Caves at 3630m.

Ascending to Mawenzi Tarn Hut

Morning: Embark on a short but steep ascent up grassy slopes, rewarded by stunning views of the Kenyan plains to the north. Leave the vegetation behind shortly before reaching Mawenzi Tarn Hut, situated below the towering cliffs of Mawenzi. 


Afternoon: Enjoy time to rest or explore the surrounding area to aid acclimatization.

Reaching the Saddle

Morning: Depart from the campsite and traverse the lunar desert of the "saddle" between Mawenzi and Kibo. After a few hours of trekking, reach this spectacular location, with the summit of Kilimanjaro in the background and the trail to the high camp stretching out before you. 


Afternoon: Upon reaching the camp, spend the remainder of the day resting in preparation for the final ascent after a very early night.

7

Summit Day on Kilimanjaro

Morning: Embark on the final ascent to the summit, beginning around midnight. The climb will be long and strenuous, passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m. 


Afternoon: As the sun rises, reach Gillman's Point (5681m) on the crater rim of Kilimanjaro. After a further hike of 1-2 hours, you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5895m. 


Evening: Return to Kibo Hut for a warm meal and a 1-2 hour break before descending to Horombo Hut.

Descending Kilimanjaro

Morning: Embark on a trek through the heath and moor zone, reaching Mandara Hut (2700m) for a warm lunch. Pass through the tropical rainforest before arriving at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m) after approximately six hours of trekking. 


Afternoon: After bidding farewell to your mountain guides, enjoy a short transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Relax in a day room before your evening flight departure or spend the night at the hotel.
